Weight Loss and Anti-Aging Benefits of Acai Berry
According to research studies, Acai (ah-sigh-ee) berry comes out on top as the number one superfood. It has the most antioxidants which help prevent premature aging. I found out about this superfood a number of years ago while watching a popular TV personality. I was fascinated at the potential benefits of this berry in maintaining a youthful look and optimal health.
I decided to put the acai berry to the test by incorporating it into my daily smoothie. If you don’t know already you cannot purchase acai berry in it’s raw form since it does not ship well. I decided to get the next best thing which is the frozen pulp. You can purchase frozen acai berry pulp at a store such as Whole Foods. After consuming this berry for a week I noticed a difference in my face. My skin felt smooth, glowed, and looked fresher. My friends also noticed a big difference in my skin.
My smoothie recipe is pretty simple consisting of the following:
- 1 bar of frozen acai berry
- cup of frozen blue berries
- ½ cup of frozen mangos
- 500 ml. of non-sweetened apple juice, or rice milk if apple juice is to sweet
After experiencing the benefits of this berry I started to research more on this powerful superfood. I found that a study by the University of Florida which discovered how acai berries destroyed human cancer cells in the lab. Although they cautioned that more studies are still needed to confirm their findings, earlier findings are encouraging so far.
Another benefit touted by marketers is Acai berry helps you lose weight. However I have not found any research to help support this claim. The literature I have read shows that Acai berries have no slimming properties. What it does do is it can suppress your appetite therefore making you eat less. It also boosts your energy level making you more active.
For me Acai berry is included in my daily diet as part of maintaining good health and to keep my body operating at optimal levels.
