Workout for women – Selecting The Right Martial Arts Program For Yourself
Martial arts and combat sports have long been dominated by males. It’s a fantastic way of developing yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually. Many women are starting to make note of its benefits and we are noticing an increasing number of women joining martial arts academies. It’s a great workout for women and helps them learn how to defend themselves at the same time. The question for many women is what type of martial arts program should they choose?
There is no clear cut answer to this question. The main thing is to select an academy and instructor that suits your needs and goals. You have to ask yourself the following questions:
1. Is it to get in shape only? If yes, then try cardio kickboxing or taebo. These classes are aimed at using martial arts moves to keep you fit. If you are looking for technique then this is not the place to go since their objective is to give a fast paced cardio workout for women in an hour.
2. If you want to get in shape and learn how to protect yourself at the same time then try a reputable self-defense program. Categories that fall into this realm are reality based self-defense programs such as Krav Maga. Krav Maga is an Israeli self-defense system taught to their military. It has been popularized by Hollywood stars such Jennifer Lopez.
Another discipline that falls into this category is kickboxing. Here you get the opportunity to learn the finer points in how to use the punches, elbows, knees, and kicks to your full ability. You don’t have to fight or spar although it is encouraged. However many are happy just to reaps the benefits the workout has to offer to women.
3. Traditional martial arts can be a great way to stay in shape, learn self-defense, and possibly work towards getting a black belt in a certain discipline. Traditional martial arts include taekwondo, karate, kung fu, and judo. For many this not only becomes a workout but a lifestyle as well.
So if you are bored with your current workout, why not try a martial arts workout for women. As I mentioned in previous posts there are many academies that offer women’s only programs. This will take away the intimidation factor and allow you to find out if the program is suitable for you.
