Workout For Women - Will Lifting Weights Make Me Look Like A Man?
The other day I was unpacking my equipment getting ready to begin teaching my cardio kickboxing workout for women class. One of my students approach me and asked me if she should lay off using resistance bands as part of her workout. Surprised at the question I asked her why she wanted to ease off on a piece of equipment that gave her fatastic results? She told me her arms were getting bigger and she was starting to bulge out of her shirts. I couldn’t help but laugh since she is one of the most petite women in the class. She added she did not want “man arms”. I explained to her that this was not possible and is a myth.
There are a number of reasons on why women who strength train will not get bulky. I have outlined them below:
1. Women do not have as much testosterone as men therefore they wil not get as big as men.
2. Women see huge female bodybuilders in magazine making them believe they will look the same if they weight lift. What most women don’t know is these women usually take some form of performance enhancing drugs to develop their masculine physique.
3. The reason why women become toned as a result of lifting weights is due to the fact they are losing fat. Therefore their muscles become more defined and developed. Since women have very little testosterone they will not gain mass.
4. If women start to bulk up suddenly I asked them what they have been eating. Sometimes they don’t realize they could be eating more. Hence more calories and not working out at optimal levels means more fat. In other words they could be getting fatter.
